What you will be doing
Historic England is the public body that helps people care for, enjoy and celebrate England’s historic environment. The historic environment is intrinsically linked to economic activity, attracting investment, driving tourism, supporting local economies and improving quality of life.
As our Senior Economist, you will provide technical leadership in economic analysis across the organisation and the wider heritage sector. You will have a creative mind to help us innovate and develop new approaches to economic measurement. You will use your excellent economic and econometric research skills to develop robust evidence that progresses our understanding and articulation of the economic value of the historic environment.
As an excellent communicator, you will contribute to sector-wide evidence dissemination working with key stakeholders, including government departments, academics and a wide range sector stakeholders. You will play a key role in preparing for fiscal events and championing value for money across Historic England’s investments. You will ensure our evidence base is aligned with the HM Treasury’s Green Book and the DCMS Culture and Heritage Capital Framework, and other best practice guidance.
Who we are looking for
- A graduate qualification in economics or a related field.
- Substantial experience undertaking, delivering and commissioning economic appraisals, impact assessments, valuation studies, evidence based business cases and evaluations.
- Excellent knowledge of the application of economic and econometric tools and techniques.
- Excellent writing skills, producing reports or briefings tailored to specific audiences, both specialist and non-technical.
- Proficiency in using Excel, statistical packages (e.g. R Studio, Stata, SPSS), and more general IT skills including Word and Outlook.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and as part of a cross-disciplinary team.
