Overview

The Policy Adviser (Community Wellbeing) will be an integral part of a team providing Historic England's advice to government and organisational strategy on public policy that delivers strong community outcomes through heritage, thereby improving people’s lives.

You will support our approach to issues such as health and wellbeing, youth, inclusion and civil society to ensure the social and economic value of heritage and its role in making successful places is fully realised.

Reporting to the Senior Policy Adviser (Community Wellbeing), you will facilitate the team’s engagement with DCMS and other government departments on community work, enabling effective, influential relationships.

You will coordinate activity that supports our strategic direction, evidence-based insight and sector leadership, to influence policy-making in a way that ensures mutually beneficial communities, places and heritage.

You will assist our work with relevant partners, both within and outside the heritage sector, to enable their constructive engagement in the process.

You will work collegiately with others in the Place Policy Directorate, alongside colleagues across the Policy and Evidence Group and Regions Group, supporting delivery of high quality advice and the design of impactful community programmes.

You will be outcome-focused and will help ensure our policy engagement is targeted towards achieving our corporate priorities in the most effective and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

  • Support the team’s engagement with government departments and external partners on community wellbeing and heritage policy.
  • Coordinate activity that aligns with the organisation’s strategic direction, providing evidence-based insight and sector leadership.
  • Contribute to influencing policy-making to benefit communities, places and heritage.
  • Assist in delivering high-quality advice and the design of impactful community programmes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Place Policy Directorate, the Policy and Evidence Group, and Regions Group.
  • Engage in cross-organisational collaboration to ensure policy engagement meets corporate priorities efficiently.

Qualifications

  • An academic or professional qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Proven experience of gathering evidence and undertaking research and analysis.
  • Evidence of policy work in a relevant field.
  • Able to take personal responsibility for their own work and see things through.
  • Confident and adaptable communication style.
  • Experience of stakeholder and relationship management.

This is a full-time permanent position.

The location is national with hybrid working.

You will be based in one of our offices and from home, including Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth (Fort Cumberland), Cambridge and London.
