Historic England have a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Heritage skills Project Adviser (Known internally as Regional Skills Senior Advisor).
This is a Full Time, Fixed-Term Contract until March 2026 based in Birmingham with hybrid working. This role will require some travel as required.

What you will be doing
With devolution in England meaning that local/combined/strategic authorities have more control over skills budgets, this fixed term role will explore the opportunities and benefits of direct engagement at regional level on the heritage skills agenda. As our Regional Skills Senior Advisor, focused on the Midlands Region, you will be collaborating with regional partners, in particular the combine and Strategic Authorities, devising practical proposals for Historic England’s regional engagement on the specialist skills needed to understand, repair, maintain, adapt and manage the historic environment.
Who we are looking for
- Experience working with local government to deliver local solutions or experience of working with partners in the heritage construction or retrofit industries to deliver collaborative projects.
- Confident and capable at developing data and evidence and using that to influence actions.
- Strong collaborator, capable of building trust and momentum to deliver projects with multiple partners.
- Understanding of UK Skills policy and its implementation with particular knowledge of the heritage construction skills landscape
