What you will be doing
The purpose of this role is to produce specialist advice and recommendations to Government on whether to include a historic building, archaeological site or designed landscape on the National Heritage List for England (NHLE). This includes advice on the listing of buildings, scheduling of monuments and registering of parks, gardens and battlefields.
As our Assistant Listing Adviser, you will assess applications made for historic buildings or archaeological sites or designed landscapes to be included on the National Heritage List for England (NHLE) and provide timely and accurate advice to Government. You will carry out a range of assessments on responsive casework, following applications from members of the public, Enhanced Advisory Services (EAS) cases and strategic projects to agreed targets and deadlines.
Who we are looking for
- Good degree in a relevant subject (or equivalent experience)
- An ability to recognise, analyse and assess the significance of components of the historic environment
- Knowledge of a specialist aspect of the historic environment such as architectural and building history, archaeology or designed landscapes
- The ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with colleagues, external partners and stakeholders.
- A clean, full driving licence
