About the Role
This product underwriting role is situated within CorSo's Global Casualty Underwriting area which is accountable for the profitability of the Casualty line of business. You will be working closely with our local underwriters in multiple Market Units across APAC, across various specialisms of Casualty (e.g. Employers, Public & Products Liability, Product Recall/Crisis Management) and have a regional remit. You are responsible to support local underwriting teams and ensure business is written in accordance with Corso's strategy, appetite and underwriting framework. Your work will provide business critical input to the Global Head Casualty.
This is a very versatile role and consists of the following main areas:
- Portfolio Steering & Monitoring & Governance: Support LoB Head with portfolio strategy, underwriting and steering insights across the LoB globally. Frame underwriting insights and detect trends which lead to specific underwriting, costing and portfolio steering actions (i.e. revising underwriting guidelines, tuning risk appetite and collaborating with Casualty LoB Head and Casualty Underwriting Center), in order to improve and/or protect profitability. Support LoB Head with cycle management and planning actions. Your activities provide critical inputs and will inform portfolio steering decisions. Identify and drive opportunities for profitable segmental growth balancing short‑ and long‑term goals with upside and downside risk.
- Training & Mentoring: Share technical subject matter underwriting expertise with underwriters. Provide regular trainings on CorSo overarching topics and LoB governance specific topics. Act as a mentor to junior and senior underwriters in Market Units.
- Technical Excellence: Ensure sound underwriting practices are followed in line with Swiss Re governance. Monitor scope of the coverage of underwritten business and identify performance trends necessitating contracts and wording action. Where required review and approve policy wordings and clauses, with the support of the Contracts & Wordings. Ensure adherence of local business with strategy, appetite and underwriting framework to achieve expected performance. Act as an expert referral body for multiple Market Units across various specialities of Casualty. Expert review, and support on International Programs (IP) and Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) initiatives.
- Key Projects: Lead Trendspotting in APAC: review signals, lead the regional Core Team, assess potential trends and determine actions on 'line specific' priorities emerging from Swiss Re Trendspotting initiative. Align with P&C Re where necessary and translate globally or locally into necessary appetite, Target Liability Portfolio (TLP), underwriting, appetite, costing and coverage actions. Lead projects/initiatives that are directly related to Corso's top priorities and therefore have high visibility and critical long‑term impact on Corso's business. Areas include but are not limited to: Process simplifications (e.g. streamlining renewal business). Complex topics such as major Swiss Re emerging risk projects, e.g. Artificial Intelligence, Climate Change, Collective Redress regulation etc. Product development. You are expected to independently plan and drive such projects.
- Internal & External Stakeholder Management: Act as point of contact for requests on the LoB from Global UW Centre and other key partners. Support Global Head Fin Pro & Casualty & LoB head on critical internal stakeholder presentations. Collaborate where necessary with senior stakeholders and brokers and with clients to support portfolio and client specific messaging and critical business retention/acquisition.
About the Team
You will report to the Global Head of Casualty and are part of a global team that is responsible for the profitability of the Casualty portfolio. As a Product Underwriter, you will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and will be part of the centralized Underwriting unit that is tasked with upholding technical excellence and ensuring the profitability of the global Casualty portfolio.
About You
- University degree or equivalent with a strong business component preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of underwriting experience in multiple specialities of Casualty and in a global environment.
- Liability insurance experience in the APAC region.
- Experience with global international business and International Programmes, familiarity with US Casualty topics and experience in major markets outside the APAC region.
- Solid skill set around Product Recall and Construction GL.
- Strong business acumen for Primary casualty business.
- Established track record of creating solutions with senior brokers and clients.
- Ability to prioritize, work on multiple priorities and work independently and as a team in an ambiguous environment.
- The ability to actively engage internal and external stakeholders respecting their different needs and interests.
- Self‑motivated to drive and own topics independently.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and advanced portfolio management and steering skills.
- Ability to prioritize and apply sound commercial judgment.
- Fluency in English, other languages would be an asset.
For London, the base salary range for this position is between GBP 112,000 and GBP 168,000 for a full‑time role. The specific salary offered considers: The requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role. The applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience. In the situation where you do not meet all the requirements or you significantly exceed these, the offered salary may be below or above the advertised range. In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for additional rewards and benefits including an attractive performance‑based annual bonus.
