About the Role
As a Casualty Claims Adjuster based in Manchester, you’ll handle a diverse portfolio spanning Public Liability, Employer's Liability and International Program claims. You’ll demonstrate your technical expertise whether acting as Lead or Coinsurer, conducting thorough coverage evaluations and influencing market stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes aligned with our Corporate Solutions Claims Commitment.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle diverse claims of varying severity within defined technical authority, including coverage review, fact investigation, loss evaluation, and strategic resolution planning.
- Establish and maintain appropriate indemnity and expense reserves with regular reviews.
- Implement proactive diary management to drive claims towards timely and efficient resolution.
- Select and direct external experts, vendors, and attorneys, setting appropriate budgets and managing costs effectively.
- Provide valuable insights and actionable claims input to underwriters and other internal stakeholders.
- Support underwriting teams with contractual wording reviews and risk assessments.
- Communicate effectively with Claim Management and stakeholders regarding loss potential and material claim developments.
- Ensure compliance with internal governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
- Pursue ongoing professional development through industry training and applicable insurance certifications.
- Contribute to regional and global projects as needed to support broader business objectives.
About the Team
The UK claims team is based in London & Manchester and comprises 17 claims professionals of different backgrounds, fields and languages, handling losses in the wholesale and retail markets across all the main lines of business.
About You
You're a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical abilities who thrives in a collaborative environment. You understand that exceptional claims handling is both a science and an art—requiring technical expertise alongside excellent communication and negotiation skills. You’re committed to continuous improvement and take pride in delivering outstanding service that truly differentiates in the market.
Requirements
- 3‑6 years of claims or insurance industry experience in the primary insurance market handling retail and/or wholesale claims.
- Solid coverage analysis, investigation, loss evaluation and claim valuation skills.
- Strong negotiation abilities with demonstrated success in claim resolutions.
- Experience managing external experts and attorneys, including proactive cost management.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite, MS Outlook, and internet-based research tools.
Nice to Haves
- Insurance qualifications (ACII preferred) or commitment to working toward these credentials.
- Practical working knowledge of the UK Personal Injury Claims Portal as a Compensator.
- Experience handling claims for International Programs.
- Understanding of underwriting and other insurance functions.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week. For Manchester, the annual base salary range for this position is between GBP 35,000 and GBP 53,000 (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role, and the applicant’s own profile including education, qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience. In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further, you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits. Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.
