Are you a seasoned Embedded Insurance (EI) professional with a powerful network, a hunter's instinct for origination, and the expertise to shape the future of a growing global business? If you thrive at the intersection of innovation, relationship‑building, and underwriting excellence – this is your opportunity to make a real impact on a global scale.
About the Role
As a Senior Special Risks Underwriter – Embedded Insurance (EI), you will be at the forefront of one of the most exciting and fast‑growing segments in the reinsurance industry. This is not a traditional underwriting role – origination is at the heart of what we expect from you. You will leverage your deep industry network and comprehensive product knowledge (ideally in the Extended Warranty or Travel business area) to identify, originate, structure, and underwrite new EI business opportunities globally. Working within a strategic growth framework and in alignment with defined marketing objectives and financial targets, you will play a pivotal role in expanding Swiss Re's footprint in the EI space.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive origination of new business opportunities by actively leveraging your established network of clients, brokers, Third Party Administrators, and ecosystem partners.
- Identify and develop new business leads across global markets, proactively building and maintaining a robust and high‑quality deal pipeline.
- Structure and underwrite complex EI schemes, deploying reinsurance capacity in accordance with risk quality standards and underwriting guidelines.
- Own and manage strategic partnerships end‑to‑end – from initial engagement through negotiation of terms and conditions to ongoing performance monitoring.
- Build and nurture long‑term relationships with clients, brokers, and partners, positioning Swiss Re as the partner of choice.
- Define and deliver optimal client solutions by combining deep product know‑how with collaboration across Swiss Re's global network of specialists and external business partners.
- Contribute to capability development within the team, including areas such as product innovation, data science, risk assessment methodologies, and partnership management frameworks.
- Monitor portfolio performance based on bottom‑line results, market impact, and capability development, ensuring continuous improvement and accountability.
- Represent Swiss Re at industry events, forums, and client meetings to strengthen brand presence and market influence in this ecosystem.
About the Team
You will be joining the Special Risks team – a highly motivated and successful group with a global mandate to underwrite EI business within Swiss Re Reinsurance. Based in Zurich or in London, the team manages a fascinating and comprehensive portfolio of Special Risks products and client relationships spanning the globe. Collaboration, agility, and a shared passion for innovation are the hallmarks of how we work. We are looking to strengthen our team with an ambitious, curious, and results‑driven colleague who brings a genuine “can‑do” attitude and places personal and professional development at the forefront. Here, you can truly make a difference.
About You
You are a driven, entrepreneurial professional who combines deep Embedded Insurance expertise (ideally in the Extended Warranty or Travel business area) with exceptional origination capabilities and a well‑established industry network. You bring a commercial mindset, a passion for building meaningful relationships, and the ability to navigate complex, multi‑stakeholder environments with confidence and credibility. You are as comfortable working independently as you are collaborating across a global team, and you take full ownership of your results.
Requirements
- Proven origination capabilities – a demonstrated track record of sourcing and converting new business opportunities, backed by a solid and active network of contacts within the EI ecosystem (insurers, distributors, fintechs, retailers, and other embedded insurance players).
- Deep Embedded Insurance product knowledge – strong and comprehensive expertise across multiple EI product lines, with the ability to assess risk, structure solutions, and advise clients with authority and confidence.
- Advanced value‑chain expertise – demonstrated ability to analyse existing EI value chains and/or build new ones from the ground up, including an understanding of the roles of all stakeholders from product design through distribution and claims.
- Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience and/or an established career in broking – solid foundation in underwriting principles and practices, with a significant portion of that experience focused on EI (e.g., Extended Warranty).
- Advanced relationship management and negotiation skills – significant experience managing complex, senior‑level relationships and leading commercial negotiations to successful outcomes.
Nice to Have
- Experience working in an international or cross‑border environment, with an appreciation for cultural nuances in business development.
- Familiarity with product development.
- Existing relationships with Third Party Administrators (TPAs), MGAs, or EI platform providers.
- Additional language skills beyond English – particularly German, French, or Spanish – are a strong advantage.
- A track record of contributing to team capability‑building, knowledge sharing, or thought leadership in the Embedded Insurance market.
