Are you seeking a meaningful development opportunity? We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Team!

Your role will include counseling on competition, trade and economic sanctions issues, monitoring legal and regulatory trends and identifying future areas of competition and sanctions risk.

About the Team

This is an opportunity to be part of the global Financial Crime legal team based in London that provides counsel on competition, trade and economic sanctions across Swiss Re's businesses and multiple jurisdictions. As part of the team, you will provide pragmatic, solution driven counsel to the business, senior management, contracts and legal and compliance colleagues.

About the Role

This role offers the opportunity to develop into a legal adviser across two specialist areas of law: competition law and trade & economic sanctions. We are looking for an experienced lawyer with strong expertise in at least one of these disciplines and the interest and capability to develop expertise in the other. You will advise on some of Swiss Re's most strategic initiatives, helping the business navigate complex competition and sanctions issues in relation to collaborations, transactions, new business models and cross-border projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise business teams globally on complex competition law and/or sanctions issues;
  • Provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice to business stakeholders;
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of Swiss Re's global Competition and compliance frameworks, including policies, guidance, legal standards and governance;
  • Monitor relevant legal trends and developments impacting the group's operations;
  • Engage and manage external counsel relationships.

As a member of Division Legal, you will also:

  • Support group-wide, business unit and cross-functional initiatives by providing practical legal input on strategic projects and emerging legal and regulatory developments;
  • Help promote a strong culture of legal and ethical compliance through stakeholder engagement, knowledge sharing and collaboration across Legal & Compliance.

About You

We are seeking an outstanding communicator, able to provide high-quality, timely and pragmatic legal advice, balanced with a clear focus on protecting the interests and reputation of Swiss Re. You demonstrate sound judgement, strong commercial instincts and are comfortable managing multiple complex cross-border matters. You are a proactive and collaborative lawyer who enjoys taking ownership, works well independently and builds trusted relationships across the business and with Legal and Compliance colleagues. You are curious, adaptable and keen to broaden your expertise, while delivering practical solutions in a fast-paced, international environment. Experience delivering legal training or presenting complex legal topics to non-lawyers would be an advantage. A high level of ethics, integrity and professionalism is essential.

Education and qualifications

University degree and qualified lawyer admitted to practice in England & Wales or another jurisdiction within EMEA.

Experience

Minimum of 3+ years' post qualification experience in a financial crime legal advisory role with a specific focus on sanctions and/or competition law gained in a law firm and/or working as in-house counsel in a multi-national organisation.

Desired Skills

Proficiency in other languages in addition to English.
