Position Summary
The Allergan Aesthetics International Communications team manages all internal and external communications outside the United States. The Europe & Canada Area Communications Lead plays a mission‑critical role in advancing regional communications excellence and upskilling the organization. This leader will develop and execute communications strategies across Europe & Canada, partnering with area and affiliate leadership teams to drive meaningful business impact.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the Head of International Communications, with a dotted‑line report to the Area Vice President. This role is crucial for advancing communication capabilities, building reputational strength, and developing expertise throughout the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Oversight: Lead strategic planning and execution of area‑wide communications initiatives, ensuring alignment with Allergan Aesthetics’ international vision and business objectives. Act as a trusted advisor to regional leadership, providing recommendations that strengthen brand reputation, employee engagement, and commercial outcomes. Collaborate cross‑functionally with marketing, commercial, and corporate communications teams to ensure unified messaging.
- Executive Communications: Provide dedicated communications support to region leadership, including preparing speeches, presentations, and key messages to enhance executive visibility and influence. Develop and implement tailored engagement strategies to build strong relationships with stakeholders.
- Localization of International Marketing Commercial Operations (IMCO) Plans: Translate global IMCO strategies into actionable, market‑specific communications plans, ensuring cultural, regulatory, and business fit across the area. Work closely with affiliates to maintain global‑to‑local alignment and adaptability.
- Consumer Activation & Conversion: Develop and execute international communication strategies to engage consumers across traditional and digital platforms, delivering programs and tactics that drive awareness, consideration, and conversion. Demonstrate expertise in reaching diverse audiences through both global and local channels, adapting messaging for Europe & Canada area affiliates. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver consistent, compliant messaging that aligns with organizational objectives. Analyze and report on communication effectiveness, making data‑driven recommendations to enhance consumer engagement.
- Affiliate Support and Capability Building: Act as a communications resource for affiliates lacking dedicated communications teams, bridging expertise and capacity gaps. Deliver training, toolkits, and best practices to empower affiliates. Serve as liaison between affiliates and global teams, facilitating consistency and information flow. Understand regulatory requirements and compliance in highly regulated industries, ensuring effective communication for both branded and unbranded markets.
- Crisis and Issues Management: Coordinate area‑wide response and communications during crisis or high‑stakes issues in partnership with global and local teams.
- Performance Measurement and Reporting: Establish KPIs for communications initiatives and report on campaign effectiveness, utilizing data‑driven insights to refine strategies. Monitor media coverage and regional communication metrics.
- Content Creation & Digital Mindset: Craft internal communications materials and updates to keep employees informed of key developments. Develop and localize content for social media, newsletters, websites, and press releases. Provide expert guidance to affiliate digital leads, ensuring strategic alignment and best‑practice implementation across international channels and all relevant markets in Europe and Canada.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in communications, including experience supporting senior executives and leading localized strategies in a regional or global organization.
- Strong understanding of the biopharmaceutical, aesthetics, or healthcare sector.
- Proven ability to distill complex strategies into actionable plans and to adapt them to diverse markets.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives tailored to different audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across cultures, geographies, and organizational levels.
- Fluency in English is a requirement.
- Experience with content management platforms and design tools, as well as working with external developers and vendors.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Experience with crisis communication and media training.
- Strong communication skills - written and verbal, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Confident operating in an international context.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively.
