The team and role
The UK Pricing team is a key part of Hiscox UK, focusing on analytics and business insight to guide underwriting decisions. The team, reporting to the UK Chief Underwriting Officer, collaborates with Underwriting, Distribution, Operations, Marketing, Reserving, and Finance. It is divided into Technical and Product Facing analysts, with the Technical team focusing on pricing models and data science to influence business outcomes.
This role is within the technical pricing area, requiring a detail-oriented individual with a commercial mindset. You will develop, maintain, and monitor pricing models, focusing on non-standard high net worth, motor, SME, and specialty lines, supporting profitable growth.
Note: This role does not require actuarial qualifications.
What you’ll be doing
- Designing and manipulating data models for pricing models.
- Creating models to predict claims and customer behaviors using GLMs and machine learning.
- Managing reporting cycles to monitor model performance and updates.
- Ensuring insights from models are used to drive business change.
- Collaborating with Underwriting leadership for model improvement.
- Producing reports for senior management to monitor portfolio performance.
- Owning pricing recommendations and model performance.
- Engaging with underwriting teams to align technical pricing with strategy.
- Supporting the implementation of new technologies like cloud data warehouses and visualization tools.
- Mentoring less experienced team members.
