The role involves working across the existing portfolio of MGA business as well as ensuring the successful delivery of new MGAs. You will work with the wider Schemes Team across underwriting, operations, sales and the wider senior leadership team to drive improvement and profitable growth of our schemes MGA portfolio, playing an integral part in realising our ambitions of growing the book in line with our strategic ambitions.

You will report directly to the Head of Schemes and have responsibility for managing the portfolio and people performance of the Schemes MGA business. You will drive and shape our selection, growth, underwriting, performance and portfolio management strategy for MGAs.

What you’ll be doing:

• Leading a team of MGA underwriters and analysts to execute on the vision, ensuring you support their day-to-day needs.
• Playing an active role in supporting the talent and development needs of your team.
• Leading the development of the underwriting, performance and portfolio management strategies and associated frameworks, specific to our MGA strategy, to ensure the profitable growth objectives of our MGA Sector are achieved that are in line with our business objectives and risk appetite.
• Leading underwriting by taking referrals and underwriting the most complex exposures.
• Responsible for loss ratio performance in line with budgets.
• Identifying and implementing relevant underwriting and product changes.
• Underwriting and portfolio management of new deals through delivery and existing deals through review cycles.
• Working in conjunction with the wider Schemes Leadership Team to prepare and deliver profitable growth plans for your MGA Sector.
• Keeping abreast of new risks and exposures within your Sector to harness new opportunities and ensure Hiscox’s market leading position is maintained.
• Ensuring your Sector team meets Hiscox standards, responsible for underwriting standards within the MGA sector underwriters and compliance with risk and underwriting policy.
• Acting as a senior representative for Hiscox and your Sector both internally and externally.
• Supporting strategic relationships in terms of trading and execution with our broking partners.
• Proactively analysing, identifying and actioning against portfolio and people performance metrics for your Sector to drive the necessary strategies that will deliver the financial plan and support our vision.

Our must-haves:

• Experience of MGAs (either operating within or management of at a senior level).
• Significant underwriting and analytical experience.
• Confident analysing data and reports, making and executing underwriting decisions on portfolios of business.
• Ability to make confident decisions in difficult and complex situations.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead a team and operate in a collaborative environment.
• ACII qualification or progression towards.
• Results driven, ability to make decisions and operate on own initiative.
• Ability to execute and influence at all levels both internally and externally.
• Open to new ideas, innovation and educated risk taking.
• People management and leadership skills preferred, or demonstrates the potential to do this well.
