About the Opportunity

At Hiscox, we believe in empowering early careers talent to make a real impact from day one. As a Graduate in the Underwriting Risk & Reinsurance team, you’ll help us understand, model and manage some of the largest and most complex risks facing a global insurer. You’ll gain hands‑on experience across technical, analytical and commercial areas, working closely with senior stakeholders to support key business decisions that shape our risk appetite and long‑term strategy.

The Role

In the Underwriting Risk & Reinsurance team, you will learn how a global insurance business understands, manages and hedges its most significant risks. Working at the centre of the organisation, you’ll partner with senior leadership, underwriting teams and analytics specialists to help answer questions such as: What could go wrong? How big could the impact be? How do we balance risk levels with profitability? You’ll gain real exposure to understanding large‑scale events, modelling scenarios, interpreting data and helping shape the frameworks that support the Group’s decision‑making.

What You’ll Do

Make an Impact
  • Contribute to meaningful projects that help Hiscox monitor, model and manage major risks.
Learn and Grow

Rotate through three core areas:

  • Exposure Management – Understanding Large & Accumulating Risks
    • Learn how losses can build across the business when a single event affects many policies. Support the development of risk models and loss scenarios. Contribute to Hiscox View of Risk, used to communicate major exposures to senior management, Boards and regulators. Work across risk types including:
    • Property risks: hurricanes, earthquakes, man‑made catastrophes
    • Cyber risks: outages, data breaches, large‑scale disruption
    • Casualty risks: liability claims including AI‑related and climate‑related litigation
  • Reinsurance Purchasing – Protecting the Business Against Large Losses
    • See how Hiscox transfers risk by purchasing reinsurance. Support negotiations with brokers and reinsurers. Gain insight into how reinsurance structures work and how commercial decisions are made.
  • Underwriting Risk Analytics – Using Data to Manage Performance
    • Work with models and analytical tools that monitor risk and profitability across the Group. See how the organisation balances risk appetite with growth ambitions.
  • Collaborate

Work closely with Underwriting, Actuarial, Analytics and senior business leaders.
