Working within the RE&ILS Risk Analytics team, you will be responsible for all actuarial support for the Hiscox Capital Partners Team. The ILS actuary will:
- Work with Portfolio Managers and Hiscox Underwriters to construct efficient and diversified portfolios of risk that are appropriate for the different risk profiles of our Capital Partners and Funds.
- Establish and monitor collateral requirements and capital release mechanisms for new and existing Hiscox Capital Partner Investment vehicles having regard to the volatility and claims settlement profile of the underlying reinsurance business.
- Establish and administer all aspects of fund valuation including establishing appropriate policies, procedures and systems required for monthly valuation of the funds.
- Advise the ILS Valuation Committee on the appropriate valuation methodology, parameters, event specific IBNR and uncertainty related to the fund valuation.
- Liaise with external actuaries to provide data and analysis in support of the actuarial opinion.
- Support the ILS Portfolio managers and Hiscox Capital Partners business development team in interactions with existing and potential investors and capital partners.
- Manage, mentor and develop members of the actuarial and risk team as appropriate.
Requirements for the Role:
- Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries or equivalent certification with at least five years post‑qualification experience.
- Extensive technical experience within the reinsurance market in Reserving, Pricing, Capital and Exposure Management.
- Demonstrate a challenging and constructive commercial outlook with ability to question the status quo.
- Self‑motivated, driven and able to lead and gain the commitment of others.
- Proven track record of constantly seeking to improve systems and processes.
- Confident communicator with the ability to build strong relationships and influence decision making.
- Strong mathematical skills with experience in reserving, catastrophe and capital modelling, computer coding tools – Python, SQL, ResQ, Tableau or PowerBI.
- Experience with catastrophe modelling software from Verisk and Moody’s.
- Familiarity with Analyze Re, Dataiku and Snowflake is an advantage.
