The Role
It is an exciting time to be part of Hiscox Europe. Since opening our first European office in Paris in 1993, we have grown into a €700m+ business with ambitious plans for the future. We are investing in transformation, long-term strategic priorities and our people as we continue to build on our success across Europe. To support this ambition, the European CEO Office is strengthening the way priorities are set, decisions are made and progress is tracked. This includes a clearer articulation of strategy, a more disciplined operating rhythm, stronger governance and more effective information flow across the European business.
The Business Manager will play a high-impact role at the centre of the European CEO Office, helping translate strategic priorities into clear action and ensuring the CEO, European Leadership Team (ELT) and key Group stakeholders are aligned on the most important business priorities. The role reports to the Chief of Strategy and will work closely with the European CEO, ELT and senior leaders across the business. This is a role for someone who combines strategic judgement with strong execution discipline. You will need to be curious, organised, commercially minded and confident working in a fast-paced environment where discretion, stakeholder management and communication are critical. How you work will be as important as what you deliver: the ability to connect the dots, build trust and create momentum across teams will be central to success.
What you’ll be doing:
- Support the CEO in the effective running of the CEO Office, ensuring priorities, decisions and actions are well structured, followed through and aligned to the European business agenda.
- Partner closely with the Chief of Strategy to translate strategic priorities into clear plans, governance routines, deliverables and progress tracking.
- Own and coordinate the CEO’s operating rhythm, including ELT meetings, leadership forums, business reviews and key governance touchpoints.
- Prepare high-quality briefing materials for key CEO meetings, ensuring discussions are focused, decision-oriented and supported by clear follow-up.
- Track delivery of CEO and ELT priorities, ensuring actions are progressed, risks and dependencies are surfaced, and momentum is maintained across the business.
- Support the development of annual business plans, strategic priorities and CEO or Board updates in partnership with the Chief of Strategy and relevant business leads.
- Lead selected strategic and operational projects on behalf of the CEO Office, bringing structure, pace and clarity to cross-functional work.
- Act as a key coordination point between the CEO, Chief of Strategy, ELT members and Group stakeholders to support effective information flow and alignment.
- Help shape clear, consistent and compelling communications from the CEO Office, including leadership updates, internal cascades and materials for major employee engagement events.
- Work closely with the Executive Assistant to ensure the CEO’s annual calendar, leadership forums and communication cadence are aligned to business priorities.
Key Capabilities & Mindset:
- Strong strategic judgement, with the ability to understand business priorities, identify what matters most and translate ambiguity into practical action.
- Proven experience leading or playing a significant role in complex projects involving senior stakeholders and multiple teams.
- Excellent project management and orchestration skills, with the discipline to turn plans into outcomes and maintain momentum across competing priorities.
- Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills, with confidence engaging senior leaders and the judgement to know when to challenge, align or elevate.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distil complex information into clear, concise and audience-appropriate materials.
- Commercially minded, self-starting and highly organised, with the ability to work independently while building strong relationships across the business.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and evolving environment, able to manage uncertainty, adapt quickly and stay focused on delivery.
- High levels of discretion, sound judgement and professionalism, given the proximity of the role to the CEO Office and senior leadership agenda.
