The Group Internal Audit team provides independent and objective assurance and advice to the Group Audit Committee, and to the Boards of Directors of the companies within the Group, over the processes and systems of control and risk management operating in the Group. Its scope covers all aspects of the Group and its activities. It also liaises closely with other monitoring functions across the Group, including Group Compliance and Group Risk. Its Audit Plans are developed using a risk-based approach.

The Vision for the Group Internal Audit team is 'To be recognised as a leading edge audit function among its peer group, which provides robust assurance and value creating insight and challenge through the excellence of its people, processes and technology.' The purpose of this Vision is to provide a consistent point of reference for our development. Our day to day work and any changes we make to what we do must be consistent with and contribute to this Vision.

The Group Audit team is based across three hubs in the UK (London), Europe (Lisbon and Luxembourg) and US (Atlanta and White Plains). The team is supplemented with additional co-source when required.

Our work adheres to the Institute of Internal Auditors' (IIA) mandatory guidance including the Definition of Internal Auditing, the Code of Ethics and the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing ('the Standards'). We also adhere to guidance issued by the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors in the UK (CIIA): Effective Internal Audit in the Financial Services Sector.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct internal audits across the Hiscox Group in line with the Audit Plan.
  • Ensure the successful and timely completion of reviews, from initial scoping and planning through to reporting and follow up of actions and recommendations.
  • Take on the lead role on several audits, responsible for their end to end delivery, as well as supporting other team members with their audits.
  • Effective stakeholder and relationship management at all levels.
  • Make effective and pragmatic recommendations to address issues and to add value to the business.
  • Contribute to Internal Audit's planning and strategy, and to its continued development.
  • Help to build and maintain Internal Audit's presence and reputation across the Group.
  • Conduct specific reviews or take on special projects as required.

Specification:

  • Must be degree qualified with a professional accountancy, audit, or CISA qualification.
  • Previous internal audit experience (while internal audit experience is highly preferential, we will consider exceptional candidates from an external audit background) which must be gained within insurance or wider Financial Services.
  • A dynamic, assertive and self-confident individual who can deliver without the need for high levels of supervision.
  • The ability to plan and organise an end to end audit with minimal day to day supervision.
  • Independent worker, resilient and self-reliant.
  • Strong people and relationship building skills, notably influencing and negotiating.
  • Sound audit judgement.
  • Excellent team working skills and the ability to supervise and coach other team members constructively and effectively.
  • Innovative problem solving skills and the courage to apply them.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Good commercial awareness.

In addition to a competitive remuneration package including a profit and performance based bonus and comprehensive benefits, the role will provide unparalleled insight into and access across the Hiscox Group. For the right candidate, this will present opportunities to move into more senior roles within Internal Audit, or within Hiscox more broadly.

At Hiscox we care about our people. We hire the best people for the job and we're committed to diversity and creating a truly inclusive culture, which we believe drives success. We have also learned over the past few years that working life doesn't always have to be in the office, and now it is safe to do so we have introduced hybrid working to encourage a healthy work life balance.

This hybrid working model is set by the team rather than the business to enable you to manage your own personal work-life balance. We see it as the best of both worlds; structure and sociability on one hand, and independence and flexibility on the other.
