In this role you will oversee the financial controllership for three managed Lloyd's syndicates, managing ledger close, regulatory and IFRS reporting, and partnering with business units on performance. You will lead IFRS 17 initiatives, strengthen the control framework, and coordinate with actuarial, underwriting, risk, and group finance. You will manage a distributed finance team across London, Colchester, and India, and serve as the main point of contact for auditors. You will drive a best-in-class Syndicate Accounting & Reporting function and deliver insightful governance reporting.

Pay / Benefits

  • Manage all ledger accounting processes for Syndicate, Managing Agent, and corporate member ledgers with monthly/quarterly/year-end close
  • Prepare management reports and analyze variances between actuals and forecasts
  • Oversee Lloyd's regulatory returns, annual reports, and IFRS statutory reporting with analysis and disclosures
  • Ensure ledgers are accurate and gaps are addressed before WDT close
  • Prepare Board materials and assist in presenting financials to the board
  • Present Lloyds results commentary including balance sheet, P&L, and KPIs for governance committees
  • Meet internal group reporting deadlines and respond to queries promptly
  • Maintain/prepare balance sheet reconciliations with clear explanations of variances
  • Coordinate stakeholder services (reserving, Syndicate FP&A) and manage handovers across departments
  • Act as key contact for Syndicate auditors and resolve audit issues
  • Ensure adherence to group accounting policies and maintain an effective financial control framework
  • Identify and implement process improvements to create a best-in-class finance function
  • Provide SME input to strategic/tactical finance projects with regard to Syndicate reporting
  • Lead the development of efficient controllership processes to meet evolving needs
  • Manage, coach, and develop the Syndicate Accounting & Reporting team
  • Collaborate with Head to enhance syndicate financial controls and close existing gaps
  • Support ongoing finance projects and changes impacting reporting and controls

Tasks

  • Significant Lloyd's market experience in syndicate accounting, reporting, and regulatory environments
  • Extensive Lloyd's reporting experience including regulatory submissions oversight
  • Proven people leadership experience and ability to develop high-performing teams
  • Experience in management/oversight roles with governance and controls focus
  • Experience working with offshore or distributed teams and across multiple locations; exposure to outsourced models is advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through change and evolving operating models
  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • Degree educated or equivalent experience
  • Excellent IT skills with accounting ledgers, reporting tools, and data analysis/modelling
  • Prior Lloyd's reporting experience and IFRS 17 exposure (advantageous)
