As Senior Legal Counsel, you will partner with Technology, Operations, Procurement, Data, AI and Transformation teams to provide commercially focused legal guidance that enables strategic decisions while managing regulatory risk. You will handle complex technology contracting, outsourcing and data-related matters within a global, regulated insurance context, shaping transformations and digital initiatives. You will influence senior stakeholders and help the Legal function scale through improved processes and tech-enabled delivery. This is a high-impact role at the heart of Hiscox’s transformation and growth.

Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted legal adviser to senior leaders across Technology, Operations, Procurement, Data, AI and Transformation functions
- Provide commercially pragmatic legal and regulatory advice to enable strategic decision-making and business objectives
- Support significant business change initiatives, technology transformation programmes and cross-functional strategic projects
- Lead drafting, review and negotiation of a broad range of commercial agreements (tech, SaaS, cloud, procurement, data, licensing)
- Advise on complex technology, software, outsourcing, data and related vendor arrangements
- Support negotiations with strategic suppliers and third-party service providers
- Advise on legal issues related to technology, AI, data governance and digital transformation
- Monitor legal/regulatory developments affecting technology and digital business models and translate to practical guidance
- Advise on outsourcing, operational resilience and third-party risk management matters
- Drive continuous improvement in legal service delivery and adoption of AI/legal tech
- Mentor colleagues, manage external counsel, and promote knowledge sharing across the global Legal function
- Lead legal workstreams on technology, operations and procurement matters
- Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across jurisdictions
- Contribute to ongoing development of the Legal function and operating model
- Reports to the Group General Counsel and works with Risk, Compliance, Privacy, Security and Finance stakeholders
- Support and develop junior legal colleagues when appropriate
Key requirements
- Qualified solicitor or equivalent with significant post-qualification experience
- Strong experience advising on commercial, technology and procurement matters
- Extensive experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements
- Strong understanding of technology contracting, SaaS, cloud, outsourcing and supplier arrangements
- Familiarity with AI, data, governance and digital transformation legal issues
- Experience in financial services or other highly regulated sectors and cross-border matters
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and provide commercially focused legal advice
- Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-management skills
- Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise
