The Role
Join us at our brand-new Crematorium and Bereavement Centre, where every day you’ll make a genuine difference for families in their time of need. We recognise that death is a natural part of life. Saying farewell to a loved one in a meaningful way is as much about providing love, care, and support for the living, as it is about offering a respectful farewell to the person who has died. As Crematorium Technician, you will uphold the client service promise and WOW (Ways of Working) standards, ensuring that every family experiences a respectful, dignified and reassuring service.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor electric cremators, filtration systems, and ancillary equipment in line with statutory requirements and manufacturer guidance.
- Ensure receipt, identification, and safe handling of deceased persons and cremated remains in line with legal procedures with the utmost respect.
- Ensure all cremations are carried out safely, lawfully, and traceably, maintaining full documentation for auditing and compliance purposes.
- Maintain cleanliness, functionality, and readiness of equipment and facilities to support uninterrupted operations.
- Manage metal residues after cremation, ensuring appropriate permissions are sought and remains are securely stored.
- Create a calm, empathetic, and professional environment for bereaved families and visitors.
- Maintain accurate, auditable records of cremations, ensuring traceability and statutory compliance.
- Comply with the Code of Cremation Practice, Environmental Protection Act 1990, and Health and Safety at Work Act.
You
- Relevant Crematorium Technician qualification such as ICCM Certificate or equivalent.
- Experience as a Crematorium Technician or in bereavement services.
- Four GCSEs at grade C or above, or equivalent, including English and Maths.
- Experience in customer-facing roles within sensitive environments.
- Strong IT skills and experience with record-keeping systems.
- Compassionate, supportive, empathetic, professional, discreet, and tactful.
- Ability to work professionally under pressure and handle cremated remains with sensitivity.
