- We are looking for a talented
Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Gateshead.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, designing mechanical solutions for complex machinery and equipment across multiple industries, including rail, industrial power and energy.
Working within a collaborative engineering environment, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical design solutions, producing accurate manufacturing documentation and supporting projects from concept through to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical parts, assemblies and complete machinery for allocated projects.
- Produce detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using
- Creo/Windchill
- Ensure all designs comply with internal and external engineering standards.
- Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) using the company MRP system.
- Develop practical and cost-effective design solutions that support manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Interpret electrical schematic diagrams to produce detailed and compact equipment layouts.
- Consider electrical component placement, cable and busbar routing, health and safety requirements, and build accessibility throughout the design process.
- Liaise with suppliers and customers to understand project requirements and ensure accurate documentation.
- Identify opportunities for product improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver projects to agreed timescales.
Requirements
- Experience designing complete machinery, fabrications and mechanical assemblies within an engineering environment.
- Proficient in 3D CAD modelling and producing detailed 2D engineering drawing packs using
- Creo/Windchill
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematic diagrams to support equipment layout and design.
- Knowledge of electrical component placement, cable/busbar routing and manufacturing considerations.
- Experience creating accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) using an MRP system.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage your workload and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments, suppliers and customers.
- Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
- A proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
