Overview
The role will play a critical role in driving successful enterprise-level agreements by ensuring contracts are efficiently negotiated, meet compliance standards, and align with organizational objectives. This position is outcomes-focused, with measurable success tied to faster deal closures, risk mitigation, and maximizing value in high-stakes negotiations. This is a hybrid role (3 days onsite) located in our Canary Wharf office in London.
Responsibilities
- Accelerate Sales Cycles: Negotiate and finalize contracts with an emphasis on reducing turnaround times without compromising compliance or quality. Achieve a measurable reduction in contract negotiation timelines by streamlining processes and preempting common bottlenecks.
- Mitigate Risks and Ensure Compliance: Ensure contracts are compliant with company policies, legal standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, US FCRA, California CPA, export controls). Successfully identify and resolve potential risks in agreements, minimizing non-standard exceptions.
- Increase Contractual Efficiency: Collaborate with sales, legal, and operations teams to create standard contract templates and playbooks that expedite negotiations. Implement and optimize contract management systems to achieve a measurable increase in team efficiency (e.g., reducing document processing times by 20%).
- Maximise Deal Value: Negotiate favorable terms in high-value enterprise agreements, resulting in an increased contract value, improved risk profile, or improved terms for renewal and upselling opportunities. Successfully close a target percentage of deals with value-added clauses that enhance customer retention and revenue potential.
- Foster Strong Stakeholder Relationships: Build trusted partnerships with sales teams, customers, and internal stakeholders, leading to a measurable improvement in internal satisfaction scores and customer feedback on the negotiation process. Act as a point of contact for resolving contractual issues, achieving a high resolution rate within set timelines.
- Drive Process Improvements: Implement data-driven strategies to enhance negotiation processes, reducing friction and improving customer satisfaction by a defined metric (e.g., Net Promoter Score or similar). Conduct post-deal reviews to identify lessons learned and continuously improve the contract negotiation approach.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors or Masters Degree in Law or another subject & SQE. Must hold current Practicing Certificate.
- Experience: 2-4 years post-qualifying experience as a lawyer or experience resulting in comparable skills as a non-lawyer. 1+ years in contract negotiation. Demonstrated ability to manage and negotiate multi-million-dollar contracts.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in contract management systems and CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Icertis, or similar). Strong understanding of commercial law and industry-specific regulatory standards. Strong contract-drafting skills, with Drafting Clearer Contracts Masterclass by Ken Adams preferred.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, with a proven ability to influence stakeholders. Analytical and detail-oriented, with a track record of making sound decisions in high-pressure environments.
