About The Role
The Senior Software Developer role at Arup is a pivotal position that combines technical expertise with innovative thinking to bring engineering simulations to life in the cloud. You will be instrumental in developing a sophisticated 3D Web Application designed to revolutionise how results are visualised and interpreted by engineers globally. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on a suite of web and cloud‑based applications that enhance the functionality and accessibility of Arup’s engineering tools. As a senior member of the development team, you will lead the design, development, and maintenance of new features, ensuring they meet business needs and technical standards. Your work will directly influence how complex simulations are communicated, making them more interactive and user‑friendly. Collaboration with cross‑functional teams—including designers, product managers and global developers—will be essential to deliver high‑quality solutions. Your contributions will help set new industry standards for simulation visualisation, ensuring Arup remains at the forefront of engineering innovation.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in UI development and modern front‑end technologies, including TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, SASS, NodeJS, and Cypress. Experience with React is essential for creating interactive and dynamic web pages, while familiarity with 3D/WebGL frameworks such as Babylon.js or Three.js will be highly advantageous. Proven expertise in building Single‑Page Applications (SPAs) and enterprise‑scale web applications is required. Additionally, experience with cloud platforms like AWS, along with infrastructure management and DevOps practices, is important for this role. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field (minimum 2.1 or equivalent) is preferred, although substantial relevant work experience will also be considered. Excellent communication skills in English—both written and verbal—are necessary for effective collaboration with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
