So that is exactly what you get. Apply for this role and you'll be invited straight into a short interview. No waiting to hear back, no wondering whether anyone read your CV. Take it right away or when it suits you, on your phone or computer. It's your chance to tell us about your experience in your own words, beyond what fits on a CV, and your answers go straight to our recruitment team. This is a strong opportunity for a qualified electrician to join a well established contractor delivering a varied programme of electrical work across Cambridge and the surrounding area. From new build residential and commercial projects through to refurbishment schemes and planned maintenance contracts, the work is genuinely broad and will suit someone who takes pride in doing the job properly and working independently to a high standard. The role β€’ Review work instructions, drawings and specifications to confirm scope and sequence before starting each task. β€’ Inspect work areas for existing services, structural constraints and access requirements prior to marking out or commencing first fix activities. β€’ Install cable management systems including steel and plastic trunking, conduit and cable tray to a plumb, level and secure finish. β€’ Route, support and label cables correctly, maintaining segregation between circuit types and meeting BS 7671 identification requirements throughout. β€’ Terminate cables neatly at distribution boards, accessories and equipment, and install luminaires, switches, sockets and control gear to specification. β€’ Carry out initial verification of completed circuits, including continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, earth fault loop impedance and RCD testing, and complete all certification accurately. β€’ Conduct periodic inspection and testing of existing installations and produce Electrical Installation Condition Reports, categorising any defects correctly as C1, C2 or C3. β€’ Commission installed equipment and confirm correct operation before handover. β€’ Coordinate with other trades on site, attend briefings and communicate progress clearly to the site supervisor or manager. β€’ Follow all safe systems of work, method statements and risk assessments, applying the test before touch sequence every time before treating a circuit as dead. β€’ Complete daily records, timesheets and material usage accurately and on time. What we are looking for β€’ Demonstrable first fix and second fix installation experience in a commercial or residential setting. β€’ Confident ability to read and work from electrical drawings and single line diagrams without close supervision. β€’ Sound working knowledge of BS 7671 (18th Edition or current). β€’ Ability to carry out initial verification and periodic inspection and testing independently using calibrated instruments. β€’ Experience installing and terminating steel conduit, trunking, multicore cables and associated systems. β€’ Methodical approach to fault finding and diagnosis. β€’ Level 3 electrical installation qualification, such as City and Guilds 2360, 2357, EAL or equivalent. β€’ 18th Edition (BS 7671) qualification. β€’ JIB Gold Card or equivalent approved electrician grading card. β€’ City and Guilds 2391 or equivalent inspection and testing qualification where the role includes that scope. β€’ CSCS or JIB ECS card where required for site access. β€’ EV charging installation certification is an advantage where that scope of work is included. The role is full time and based in Cambridge, with work carried out across sites in Cambridge and the surrounding area. You will report to an Electrical Supervisor or Site Manager and will have the autonomy to plan and carry out tasks within your authorised scope, sign off your own certification and organise your sequence of work in coordination with other trades on site.
