About the Job
Working closely with Directors and Partners, the Indirect Tax Manager will be responsible for assisting with and completing the following duties...
- Manage a portfolio of Indirect Tax clients, providing high-quality VAT and advisory services.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser.
- Advise clients on a broad range of VAT matters including international expansion, new income streams, property transactions and HMRC disputes.
- Review complex VAT returns and advisory work, ensuring technical accuracy and quality.
- Identify opportunities to turn day-to-day client queries into wider advisory projects.
- Manage WIP, billing and fee proposals across your portfolio.
- Support Directors and Partners on complex advisory assignments and client projects.
- Contribute to tenders, pitches and wider business development activity.
- Support due diligence assignments and provide Indirect Tax input into wider transactions and audit work.
- Prepare and review technically robust written advice and reports.
- Provide VAT training and technical support to junior members of the team.
- Manage, mentor and develop junior team members.
- Keep up to date with changes in VAT legislation, HMRC guidance and relevant case law.
- Work collaboratively with wider Tax, Audit and Advisory teams.
Previous experience
- Strong VAT or Indirect Tax advisory experience gained within a professional practice environment.
- Thorough understanding of UK VAT principles and their application across a range of client situations.
- Experience managing a portfolio of clients and delivering work commercially.
- Strong technical knowledge across UK VAT.
- Experience reviewing complex VAT work with a high degree of autonomy.
- Ability to research complex VAT legislation, HMRC guidance and case law and provide clear commercial advice.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience managing and developing junior members of a tax team.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to identify and develop advisory opportunities.
- Strong client relationship management skills.
- ACA, CA, CTA or equivalent qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Experience in customs duty, Insurance Premium Tax or other Indirect Taxes would be advantageous.
- Ambitious and motivated to progress within a growing Indirect Tax team.
