Our client is a well-established and growing multi-channel retail group with operations throughout the UK and Ireland. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join their busy Belfast Head Office finance team.

About the Job

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Assistant Accountant will support the day-to-day running of the finance function across multiple group entities. This is a varied, hands-on role offering exposure to management accounts, month-end reporting, transactional finance, reconciliations, and commercial reporting.

  • Assist with financial reporting and month-end processes
  • Support transactional finance activities across the Group
  • Complete reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records
  • Assist with VAT, payroll support, and audit preparation
  • Provide financial support to operational teams across the wider business
  • Support the Financial Controller with ad hoc projects and team development

This role would suit an ambitious finance professional looking to develop within a dynamic and fast-moving commercial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation of monthly management accounts, budgets, and forecasts across multiple entities
  • Support purchase ledger, sales ledger, and payroll processes
  • Assist with fixed assets, accounts payable, accounts receivable, VAT, and Intrastat reporting
  • Complete balance sheet and bank reconciliations
  • Support month-end processes including journals, accruals, and prepayments
  • Assist with supplier invoice processing and payment runs
  • Support credit control and customer account reconciliations when required
  • Provide financial support to operational teams across the wider Group
  • Maintain accurate financial records in line with company procedures
  • Assist with year-end audit preparation
  • Support the Financial Controller with team leadership, training, and development
  • Assist with ad hoc finance projects and reporting duties

Your Skills & Experience

  • Part-qualified (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA)
  • Minimum 2 years finance experience within a busy accounts environment
  • Experience working across multiple entities would be advantageous
  • Experience using Sage
  • Strong reconciliation and month-end accounting experience
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced commercial environment
  • Excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail
  • Organised, proactive, and able to work effectively as part of a team
