Are you a passionate and inspiring Speech & Drama practitioner looking to nurture confidence and creativity in young people?

The Downs Malvern is seeking an enthusiastic Visiting Music Teacher (LAMDA – Speech & Drama) to deliver high-quality tuition to pupils across the school. This is an exciting opportunity to work with talented and motivated pupils, preparing them for LAMDA examinations whilst fostering a lifelong love of performance and communication.

The Role

Working closely with the Drama Coordinator and Performing Arts Department, you will:

  • Deliver engaging individual and small-group Speech & Drama lessons
  • Prepare pupils for LAMDA examinations across Performance, Communication and Musical Theatre pathways
  • Develop pupils’ confidence, public speaking and presentation skills
  • Select and tailor material appropriate to each pupil’s age and ability
  • Monitor progress, maintain records and provide written reports
  • Communicate effectively with pupils, parents and colleagues
  • Support performance opportunities including productions, showcases and co-curricular events where appropriate
  • Contribute to the vibrant performing arts culture at The Downs Malvern

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A recognised qualification in Speech & Drama, Performing Arts, Acting, Theatre Studies or a related discipline
  • Experience teaching Speech & Drama to children and young people
  • A creative, enthusiastic and inspiring teaching style
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to motivate and engage pupils of varying ages and abilities
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

This post involves significant contact with children and the post holder will be responsible for children. The post holder will be considered to be in regulated activity.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are ‘spent’ unless they are ‘protected’ under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

The Downs Malvern exists to provide a quality all round education for pupils aged 6 months – 13 years old and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Candidates must be prepared to undergo child protection screening and an Enhanced DBS check.

You will be required to provide proof of your identity, right to work in the UK and qualifications during the selection process. We will seek references on short-listed candidates that will include questions about past disciplinary actions or allegations in relation to behaviour with children and may approach previous employers for information to verify particular experience or qualifications before interview. An online search will also be carried out as part of due diligence on all short-listed candidates.
