Reporting Line
This role reports to the Solicitor and Director in Land Acquisition, Birmingham

Job Purpose
To work alongside the Senior Associate solicitor in the department providing a full and efficient service, on a fixed term contract for up to 12 months, within the department to assist with the conveyancing of land and affordable housing, exercising confidentiality and client care at all times.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
β€’ To carry out and be responsible for day to day conduct of Land Acquisition and related work files under the supervision of the Legal Director/solicitor;
β€’ Opening new files as and when instructed;
β€’ Collating title, planning and other development information and liaising with and/or meeting clients
β€’ Photocopying of large plans and other documents;
β€’ Managing incoming and outgoing telephone calls, e-mails and faxes as required;
β€’ Updating databases and directories where appropriate;
β€’ Audio typing of attendance notes, standard letters, contracts and documents;
β€’ Drafting deeds and documents in a standard form;
β€’ Arranging execution of documents either by hard copy or electronically
β€’ Assisting with responses to enquiries;
β€’ Liaising with client, solicitors and other relevant parties, dealing with their enquiries and providing updates on the matter;
β€’ Checking Legal Documents for quality, consistency and content;
β€’ Ensuring files are kept tidy and up-to-date;
β€’ Preparation of SDLT forms for submission to HMRC;
β€’ Preparation of forms for submission to HM Land Registry;
β€’ Dealing with Land Registry requisitions;
β€’ Reviewing completed Land Registry applications;
β€’ Preparation of completion statements, spreadsheets and all other paperwork in readiness for completion;
β€’ Closing and archiving files when matter is completed;
β€’ Checking nil balance with Accounts and confirming destruction date with Fee Earner;
β€’ Legal Research

Personal Specification

Legal Status:
β€’ Appropriate DBS disclosure will be required prior to confirmation of appointment
β€’ Right to live and work in the UK e.g. valid UK passport or appropriate visa/work permits

Education/Qualifications:
β€’ Law Degree or equivalent is preferable
β€’ GCSE Level 5 (Grade C) or above in English and Maths

Skills/Knowledge:
β€’ Relevant experience within a Legal Assistant or Paralegal capacity
β€’ Knowledge of Land law is preferable
β€’ Self-organised and proactive
β€’ Ability to take responsibility and solve problems
β€’ Attention to detail
β€’ Ability to maintain client confidentiality
β€’ Adaptable to the needs of the business as changes occur during the operational requirements
β€’ Competent in the effective use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT)
β€’ The ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and work under pressure
β€’ Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

Location: 33-34 Paradise Street, Birmingham B1 2AJ
Salary: Competitive
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm, 37.5 hours per week
Contract Type: 12 Months FTC
