We’re looking for an R&D Tax Consultant to join a lean, high-performing team supporting software and technology businesses to secure government-backed funding. This is your chance to work hands-on with founders, CTOs, and CEOs of some of the UK’s most exciting startups and scale-ups, translating complex technical projects into actionable R&D tax claims and funding strategies.
This role is perfect for candidates who want autonomy, variety, and exposure to innovative projects, whether you’re a technically strong software specialist ready to develop R&D expertise, or an experienced R&D tax professional looking to deepen your technical know-how.
The Role:
Reporting into the R&D Tax Manager, you’ll play a key role in managing client projects from start to finish. You’ll evaluate technical work for R&D eligibility, collaborate with clients and colleagues, and provide expert guidance to ensure accurate, compliant claims.
R&D Tax Specialist Responsibilities:
- Manage client engagements for software and technology businesses
- Analyse technical projects to identify claimable R&D activities
- Translate complex technical work into clear, accessible language
- Work closely with the team to improve processes and share knowledge
- Ensure compliance with the UK R&D Tax Incentive Scheme
- Support with technical reviews, claims preparation, and client reporting
- Salary up to £70,000 depending on experience
- Fully remote working (UK-based) with hybrid London option if preferred
- Autonomy, flexibility, and trust – no micromanagement
- Work with cutting-edge software companies across AI, ML, DevOps, SaaS, and more

R&D Tax Specialist Requirements:
- Degree or equivalent in a software-related subject (Computer Science, Software Engineering, DevOps, AI/ML, Full Stack Development)
- Experience in R&D tax consultancy
- Strong technical proficiency in modern programming languages or demonstrable software engineering background
- Excellent communication skills – able to explain technical topics to non-technical audiences
- Collaborative, client-focused mindset, comfortable working independently too
