My client, a renowned medical membership organisation, is seeking an Interim Director of Professional Learning and Development to lead a pivotal programme of work over the next 6 months—with the potential for extension. The organisation supports thousands of clinicians and educators through training, guidance, and career-long development. Now, we’re entering an exciting phase of growth and re-evaluation of our leadership model—and we need a confident and experienced leader to help shape that journey.

About the Role: As Interim Director, you’ll provide strategic and operational leadership for the Education and Training Department. You’ll oversee the development and delivery of qualifications, CPD programmes, events, and digital learning tools that advance the organisation's mission. You’ll work closely with the CEO, Vice President (Professional Learning and Development), and clinical leaders to ensure the education offer is relevant, future-proofed, and high quality. You’ll also lead a talented team of staff and engage with a wide range of stakeholders, from educators and examiners to partner organisations and members. This is a rare opportunity to join the organisation's Senior Leadership Team and make a real impact in a visible and influential role.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Setting strategic direction for our learning and development portfolio
  • Leading a departmental team and overseeing education operations and budgets
  • Driving innovation across digital learning, assessments, and course delivery
  • Enhancing quality assurance and governance frameworks
  • Shaping curricula and learning outcomes in collaboration with clinical experts
  • Representing the organisation at external forums and building strategic partnerships
  • Line management of 6 members of staff along with operational management tasks

What we’re looking for:

  • Senior leadership experience in education/training, ideally within healthcare
  • Deep understanding of curriculum design, assessments, and quality assurance
  • Experience leading teams, managing change, and overseeing complex programmes
  • A skilled communicator with stakeholder confidence and collaborative approach
  • Knowledge of digital learning platforms and education technology
  • A passion for developing high-quality, accessible, impactful learning experiences

Experience in the NHS, medical education, or membership bodies is desirable. This is a 6-month contract with potential to extend, paying circa 65K and comes with strong benefits. Apply now for immediate consideration.
