Hippo Digital is recruiting for a Lead DevOps Engineer to join the Managed Services team. This client‑facing role will work across multiple platforms and cloud‑based solutions to ensure robust, scalable and high‑performing client environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shape Hippo’s managed services capability by delivering reliable, scalable and secure platforms.
  • Act as a Lead Consultant, providing strategic direction and hands‑on expertise across cloud platforms, infrastructure and service operations.
  • Lead squads and contribute to the broader engineering community, driving best practices in automation, reliability and secure‑by‑design delivery.
  • Participate in the on‑call rotation to provide out‑of‑hours support for critical systems.
  • Coach and support the development of other Managed Service staff, ensuring high standards in cloud architecture, CI/CD, testing and platform support.
  • Share knowledge with the wider technical community and help recruit additional professionals.
  • Ensure strategic contributions to Hippo’s Managed Services and Engineering communities.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience managing production workloads on AWS.
  • Strong experience with monitoring, observability and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch or Datadog.
  • Experience maintaining robust pipelines using GitLab CI/CD or GitHub Actions, including debugging complex pipeline issues.
  • Experience deploying and managing containerised applications.
  • Extensive experience with Terraform for infrastructure‑as‑code.
  • Experience with Identity & Access Management, including enterprise platforms such as Ping Identity.
  • Experience with headless CMS and content platforms such as Contentful.
  • Proficiency in languages such as Python and JavaScript.
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills, translating technical issues into business impact.
  • Willingness to participate in an on‑call rotation.
  • Located within reasonable travelling distance from one of Hippo’s UK offices (Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, London or Bristol).
  • Open to relocation support of up to £8,000.
