We are recruiting for a Senior Data Science Engineer to support our mission. We work at the intersection of strategy, design, and technology to solve complex problems and create lasting value. As a Senior Data Science Engineer, you will play an important role in making Hippo the best Consultancy out there. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team combining data, design, product, delivery, analysis, and engineering to deliver bespoke digital services that make a positive and meaningful impact on organisations and society. You will act as a Senior Consultant to deliver Data Science Engineering services to our clients. Senior Data Science Engineers are experienced practitioners who lead by example, ensuring technical excellence within squads and mentoring junior members of the engineering community.
Your Role in a Nutshell:
- Lead the production of user-centred data science solutions, ensuring adherence to best practices and business requirements.
- Facilitate collaboration with stakeholders to design and deliver solutions to complex problems.
- Develop and expand Data Science capabilities and support capability building within the organisation.
- Manage machine learning deployment pipelines (MLOps) and resolve potential bottlenecks.
- Mentor and coach other engineers to support their professional development.
Skills and experience that you need:
Essential Experience:
- Extensive experience in Python and proficiency in other languages (e.g., SQL, R, Java).
- Strong experience deploying and monitoring machine learning (MLOps) using tools such as MLflow, AWS Sagemaker, and Azure Machine Learning.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality, scalable data science solutions.
- Expertise in Data Manipulation, ML, and Statistical Analysis coding packages.
- Strong experience in testing data models and Machine Learning Models.
- Proven ability to design, build, and optimise recommender systems.
- Strong experience in experimental design, including A/B testing and randomised control trials.
- Deep understanding of product delivery from requirements to desirable business outcomes.
Desirable Experience:
- Demonstrable experience applying Natural Language Processing (NLP) to areas such as information retrieval.

Hippo Locations:
We are headquartered in Leeds and have offices across the UK in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, London and Bristol. We're on the lookout for top talent nationwide but you need to be located within reasonable travelling distance from one of our offices. Given the dynamic nature of a consulting business, you may be required to work on-site at a Hippo office or at an in/out of town client location for a number of days per week (client dependent) and therefore candidates will need to be open/flexible to travel and working on one of those sites at least 2 days per week.
