Responsibilities
We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team at aparto Student. This role is based on-site at our student properties and involves ensuring the premises remain safe, functional, and well-maintained. The position requires working an 8-hour shift, five days a week, including occasional weekends. The ideal candidate will have experience in general maintenance, basic plumbing, reactive and preventative maintenance, as well as health & safety compliance.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from residents and staff.
- Diagnose and repair issues related to plumbing, electrical, heating, appliances, and general building fabric.
- Log and update work orders using IT systems, ensuring efficient tracking of maintenance tasks.
- Perform scheduled inspections and servicing of key systems such as emergency lighting, fire alarms, and water systems.
- Ensure regular upkeep of communal and external areas, including lightbulb changes, door checks, and drain clearance.
- Maintain up-to-date records of maintenance activities and upscale recurring faults for resolution.
- Support compliance with statutory requirements such as fire safety and water hygiene.
- Report and act on any hazards, incidents, or near misses to ensure a safe environment.
- Assist with building inspections and audits, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
- Engage professionally with residents, addressing maintenance concerns with empathy and efficiency.
- Liaise with third-party contractors, supervise works as required, and ensure quality standards are met.
- Support other team members during peak times, such as move-in/move-out periods and room inspections.
- Maintain tools and the workshop area in safe working condition.
- Monitor stock levels of maintenance supplies and request replacements as necessary.
- Carry out minor refurbishments and decoration tasks, including painting and furniture repairs.
Qualifications
Experience in a general maintenance or facilities role (residential, hospitality, or similar). Basic skills in general repairs, plumbing, joinery, and painting/decorating. Understanding of health and safety best practices. DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
