Our client is a specialist engineering and construction contractor operating across the UK water industry, partnering with major water companies to deliver complex infrastructure solutions. Due to continued growth and company expansion, they are recruiting a Principal Process Engineer. This is a permanent position with a salary guide up to £80k and will be based in our clients' offices in Manchester, with the opportunity for hybrid or remote working for a strong candidate.
This Principal Process Engineer role will be responsible for providing solutions, design deliverables, and technical standards for process engineering designs across the water industry.
What you’ll be doing:
- Ensure all design deliverables meet safety and quality standards, approving reports, specifications, and DRAs while maintaining compliance with industry and water company regulations.
- Develop and lead engineers and graduates, providing technical direction and fostering professional growth within the design team.
- Identify and communicate efficient design solutions through scope reviews and site visits, ensuring alignment between client requirements and project delivery teams.
- Review and approve technical outputs including mass balances, process sizing, hydraulic calculations, PFDs, control philosophies, and commissioning strategies.
- Manage design processes end-to-end, including estimating hours, implementing change control, attending HAZOP/ALM/KM meetings, and providing technical guidance for projects and tenders.
What we’re looking for:
- Significant design experience in the regulated water industry at Senior or Principal engineering level.
- Extensive experience and understanding of wastewater unit processes and treatment plant, with experience of delivering process design for wastewater projects.
- Preferably a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and ideally experienced with clean water and wastewater projects.
- Experience of HAZOP studies ideally as HAZOP chair would be very beneficial.
