Salary: £33,699 up to £38,220 per annum pro rata (Pay award pending)

Grade: 6

Location: Hinckley, Leicestershire, working across the Leicestershire Revenues and Benefits Partnership authorities: Harborough District Council, North West Leicestershire District Council and Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council. Hybrid working available, by agreement.

Contract: Permanent, full-time, 37 hours per week Monday to Friday. Flexibility to work outside normal office hours may be required to meet service needs.

About the role:

The Leicestershire Revenues and Benefits Partnership is looking for a Senior Visiting Officer to support and coordinate the visiting function across HDC, NWLDC and HBBC. This is a varied role, helping ensure accurate Council Tax, Business Rates and Benefits administration while playing an important part in maximising revenues, protecting public funds and delivering a customer-focused service.

What you will be doing:

  • Coordinate and support the day-to-day work of the Visiting Team, allocating workloads effectively and ensuring visits are completed in line with agreed priorities and timescales.
  • Conduct and oversee visits and inspections relating to Council Tax, Business Rates and Benefits, including high-value and complex Non-Domestic Rates inspections.
  • Use a risk-based and curious approach to review information, identify discrepancies, check records, and support accurate liability, entitlement, income maximisation, and effective revenue collection.
  • Identify opportunities to ensure the rating lists are up to date helping to maximise Council Tax and Business Rates income across the partnership.
  • Act as a source of technical support and guidance for visiting-related queries, including completion notices, complex cases, and quality assurance checks.
  • Maintain accurate records, analyse visiting outcomes, and use data and technology to support service improvement, mobile working, and performance monitoring.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and practical support to colleagues, helping the service work consistently and effectively across all three partner councils.

About you:

You will be a confident, curious, and customer-focused person with excellent communication skills and a strong eye for detail. You will enjoy problem solving, asking the right questions, supporting colleagues, and working collaboratively across a busy shared service.

Essential criteria:

  • Experience of working in a Revenues and Benefits, local government, or similarly customer-focused environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain information clearly, sensitively, and confidently to a range of audiences.
  • A curious and analytical approach, with the ability to review information, identify issues, make sound judgements, and follow through to resolution.
  • Good knowledge of Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support or related legislation and processes, or the ability to develop this knowledge quickly.
  • Understanding of the importance of maximising revenues, protecting the tax base and supporting effective collection through accurate, timely and well-evidenced visiting activity.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines, maintain accurate records, and use relevant IT systems and Microsoft Office applications effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, using initiative while building positive working relationships across HDC, NWLDC, HBBC and external partners.
  • Full valid driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle for work purposes.
