Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council is seeking an experienced Senior Democratic Services Officer to play a key role in supporting the Council’s democratic, decision making and governance processes. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled democratic services professional with strong knowledge of local government law, governance, constitutional arrangements and committee management to work at the heart of local democracy.
What you will be doing:
- Supporting the Council’s democratic and decision making processes, including Council, Executive, regulatory and scrutiny committees and working groups
- Providing professional governance and constitutional advice to members and officers
- Managing and developing the modern.gov decision management system
- Maintaining forward plans, calendars of meetings and scrutiny work programmes
- Supporting overview and scrutiny activities, including task and finish groups
- Providing support to members and the civic function
- Supporting the corporate complaints process
About you:
You will be a confident and organised professional with substantial experience in a democratic services or governance environment.
Essential criteria:
- Significant experience in democratic services, governance or committee administration
- Strong knowledge of local government legislation, constitutions and political processes
- Experience advising elected members and senior officers
- Experience managing committee management systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and tight deadlines
- Political awareness, discretion, tact and diplomacy
