We are looking for a motivated and customer focused Deputy Allocations Officer to join our busy Allocations and Housing team. You will play a key role in ensuring fair, efficient, and transparent access to social housing. In this role, you will be responsible for verifying eligibility for offers of social housing, making nominations in line with our Allocations Policy, and conducting viewings on Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council properties for prospective tenants. You’ll work closely with internal teams, external partners, and registered providers to ensure applicants receive a high quality service at every stage. What you’ll be doing:
- Managing the advertising of available properties and supporting applicants with the bidding process.
- Making nominations to Registered Providers and liaising with them to ensure smooth property offers and sign ups.
- Carrying out verification checks, home visits (where required), and reviewing supporting evidence.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential records on the housing management system.
- Providing clear, empathetic advice to applicants about their housing options, waiting times, and the allocations process.
- Supporting initiatives to improve allocations and reduce void times.
- Contributing to service improvements and policy updates.
What we’re looking for:
- Experience in housing, allocations, homelessness, customer service, or a related field.
- A good understanding of housing legislation and the social housing allocations framework (or willingness to learn).
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to analyse information to make fair decisions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing deadlines and respond to urgent cases.
- A customer centred approach with the ability to support people in challenging situations.
- Confidence with IT systems and case management software.
- Commitment to customer care and safeguarding.
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential).
We operate a ‘hybrid working’ model with a mix of office based, home and remote working available when suitable. The contractual base will be office based with agreed flexibility to work from home or at remote working locations in the borough.
