The predicted salary is between 33699 - 38220 £ per year.

Salary: £33,699 up to £38,220 per annum pro rata (actual £17,304.89 up to £19,626.48) – pay award pending

Grade: 6

Location: Hinckley, Leicestershire

Contract: Permanent contract, 19 hours per week, part time (working pattern negotiable), weekend working will be required (no more than one weekend in four)

About the role

Keeping our neighbourhoods clean and tidy is the number one priority for the residents of our Borough. The Clean Neighbourhoods Service’s purpose is to ensure Hinckley and Bosworth is a place with clean, tidy and litter‑free neighbourhoods where everyone takes responsibility for their waste and the surrounding environment.

What you will be doing:

  • Conduct thorough investigations of assigned environmental incidents, such as littering and fly‑tipping.
  • Document findings accurately, report incidents promptly, and take decisive actions to resolve environmental crimes, working within established procedures and legislation.
  • Execute enforcement actions against environmental offenders, including issuing fines, warnings, notices and penalties or prosecution as necessary.
  • Take ownership of managing, implementing and enforcing the Public Space Protection Order to maintain compliance within public spaces.
  • Take action to address nuisance and abandoned vehicles, including steps for removal or resolution.
  • Provide expert advice on enforcement matters, keeping up to date with legislative changes and emerging environmental laws that may impact service delivery.
  • Develop and implement behaviour change campaigns aimed at reducing environmental crimes, with a commitment to leading a minimum of two campaigns per year.
  • Engage with and educate local residents, visitors, schools, businesses, volunteers and parish councils on environmental issues and legislation.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills by facilitating discussions, attending meetings (including evening meetings), and organizing educational events and activities tailored to various audiences.
  • Monitor the standards of street‑cleansing teams and support the Clean Neighbourhood Supervisors to raise standards and productivity of the street cleansers, including covering supervision during staff holidays.

About you

You will be a professional and pro‑active individual with a strong interest in environmental protection and community standards. You will communicate clearly, work within legal frameworks and take a fair, proportionate approach to enforcement.

Essential criteria:

  • Suitable previous working experience in an environmental enforcement team.
  • Full driving licence and access to own car.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including attending evening meetings and weekend working (not exceeding one in four), when required.
  • Satisfactory completion of a DBS check.
