Career Grade Planner (Development Management)
Salary: £29,540 up to £42,839 per annum pro rata (pay award pending)
Grade: 5-7
Location: Hinckley, Leicestershire (hybrid working available)
Contract: Two year fixed term contract, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit ambitious candidates to strengthen our Development Management team. The department is going from strength to strength, having been awarded the East Midlands Local Planning Authority Team of the Year in 2024 and receiving a commendation in the East Midlands Young Planner of the Year category in 2025.
With a fully staffed and thriving Development Management team, we are looking to add additional support through a long‑term two‑year contract. We expect to invest in your growth and advancement within the department and are keen to appoint someone who is ready to take the next step forward in their planning career.
What you will be doing
- Manage a varied caseload of planning applications, pre‑application enquiries and appeals
- Deal with a wide range of development proposals including urban extensions, major employment uses, sensitive sites and rural applications
- Support the delivery of an effective and high‑performing Development Management service
- Contribute to the progression of the Local Plan, including upcoming Regulation 19 consultation work where appropriate
- Work within the council’s career grade structure, meeting clear expectations for progression
- Engage with stakeholders, applicants and colleagues to achieve positive planning outcomes
- Maintain accurate records and provide professional planning advice in line with policy and legislation

You will be ambitious and motivated, with the ability to contribute positively to a high‑performing and supportive team environment, and ready to take advantage of the development and progression opportunities available within the service.
Essential criteria
- Experience of managing a caseload of planning applications, including pre‑application enquiries and/or appeals
- Ability to work effectively within a Development Management environment and contribute to a high‑performing team
- Good working knowledge of planning processes, procedures and relevant legislation
- Ability to manage a varied workload, including complex and sensitive applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Commitment to professional development and progression within a career grade structure
