Lead the Future of Lending at Hinckley & Rugby Building Society. We're looking for an experienced and inspirational lending leader to join our Executive Team as Director of Lending. This is a key strategic role with responsibility for shaping and delivering the Society's lending strategy, driving sustainable growth, strong risk management, and excellent member outcomes.

As a member of the Executive Team, you'll play a key role in influencing the future direction of the Society while leading a talented lending function through a period of continued growth and opportunity.

The Opportunity

This role combines strategic leadership with operational oversight, providing the opportunity to influence every aspect of the Society's lending proposition. You will:

  • Develop and deliver the Society's lending strategy to support sustainable growth and strong customer outcomes.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing Lending Team, creating a culture of expertise, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee lending policy, underwriting standards, and credit risk management, ensuring prudent decision-making across the mortgage portfolio.
  • Drive improvements across the end-to-end mortgage journey to enhance efficiency and service for members and intermediaries.
  • Manage key third-party and intermediary relationships, helping to strengthen our market presence and reputation.
  • Provide insightful management information and reporting to Executive, Credit Committee, Board Risk Committee and Board forums.
  • Ensure compliance with FCA and PRA requirements, Consumer Duty principles and the Society's risk appetite.

About You

We're looking for a strategic leader with significant mortgage lending and credit risk experience gained within financial services. You'll bring:

  • A proven track record of senior leadership within mortgage lending and credit risk.
  • Strong people leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate and develop high-performing teams.
  • Experience of developing and implementing lending strategies that balance growth, risk, and customer outcomes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to engage at Board and Executive level.
  • A deep understanding of regulatory requirements, governance, Consumer Duty, and risk management frameworks.
  • A collaborative approach and a commitment to delivering excellent outcomes for members and colleagues.
