The opportunity in summary:

We’re looking for a motivated and capable Container Yard Operator to join our Hastings team. This is a hands‑on role with real responsibility where you’ll be managing the day‑to‑day flow of containers, organising the yard, ensuring compliance requirements are met, and supporting efficient operations. You’ll be working primarily Monday to Friday on dayshift, with weekend work as required, so flexibility is essential. This role suits a self‑starter who takes pride in their work and is confident stepping up, taking ownership, and getting the job done right.

Day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Organise and manage container storage for efficiency and accessibility
  • Operate forklifts (up to 7 tonne) and Combilift equipment
  • Devanning containers, including AP (Authorised Person) responsibilities
  • Ensure all container checks and inspections are completed accurately
  • Complete and maintain MPI portal entries in line with compliance requirements
  • Oversee product storage to ensure correct handling and standards are maintained
  • Coordinate and supervise casual labour as required
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well‑organised yard
  • Work closely with drivers and operations to ensure smooth container flow
  • Uphold company standards and present a professional image

Skills and experience required:

  • Minimum Class 2 licence (Class 5 highly advantageous/preferred)
  • Forklift experience (up to 7 tonne)
  • Combilift experience preferred
  • Experience in container handling, devanning, or yard operations
  • AP experience and MPI knowledge highly advantageous
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage your own workload
  • Proven ability to take ownership and work independently
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with others
  • Strong focus on health & safety
