Overview
Role: Hygiene Operative Nights. Location: Laforey Road, Grimsby. Shift: Mon-Wed 21:00-05:00, Thurs 20:00-04:00, Fri 19:00-03:00. Pay rate: £13.49 per hour + £2.06 per hour (additional pay).
This role focuses on safely and efficiently delivering high standards of factory hygiene against documented methodology and procedures (CICs) to ensure the Manufacturing facility meets regulatory standards and customer expectations. You will understand how cleaning impacts food safety from microbiological, allergen and foreign body perspectives and manage waste streams in line with site policies.
Key responsibilities
- Clean food production equipment, machinery, utensils, and areas to the required standard using the relevant chemicals at the correct dose by following validated CICs.
- Carry out cleaning in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) including Colour Coding, Allergen, Speciation and Area policies.
- Complete Hygiene records accurately, on time, with legible entries.
- Provide a service to all production areas, ensure equipment is cleaned promptly and returned for use to minimise downtime and support setup where required.
- Remove and segregate waste by the appropriate stream, avoid cross-contamination, and minimise debris entering drainage in line with site environmental policies.
- Understand listeria controls in high-risk areas and follow area hygiene and personnel procedures.
- Escalate identified equipment issues, H&S issues, access issues, and potential foreign body risks as needed.
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures, wear appropriate PPE, and adhere to site rules for personal and team safety.
- Report accidents and near misses to the Team Manager and use appropriate channels to support Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Complete Start Up Checks in the area of responsibility and report any defects to the Team Manager.
Required experience and qualifications
- Previous experience in a hygiene/cleaning role within a food manufacturing or fish processing environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with food hygiene and safety standards (e.g., BRC, HACCP).
- Understanding of COSHH regulations and safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Comfortable working in cold and wet environments typical of fish or seafood processing areas.
