What we are looking for
We are looking for a professional and experienced Business Unit Controller to lead and develop strategy to deliver long-term sustainable growth with existing retail partners whilst also optimizing new customers and channels for growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the team interface with customers to create and maintain an enduring relationship and ensure the positive development of the category.
- Identify and go after new business opportunities across the UK market.
- Develop and implement long-term strategic plans in collaboration with customers to deliver volume growth and optimal market performance.
- Lead, manage, and develop your Commercial team to ensure engagement and have the capability to effectively perform their roles and quickly respond to changes in market and business requirements.
- Work collaboratively with the NPD Director and wider team to ensure targeted first to market innovation and existing product development to align with consumer trends and customer needs.
- Work collaboratively with the Head of Category Insight and wider team to keep up to date with customer and consumer trends and market performance metrics to inform the Commercial and NPD strategy.
- Develop, plan, execute and monitor effective promotional schemes via the team to generate maximum category volume and profitability.
- Negotiate prices with both customers and suppliers, including promotional pricing and new product development costings.
- Lead and manage through the team all elements of account administration including forecasting, cost price confirmations, new line forms and promotional activity.
- Provide regular analytics and reporting to monitor product performance and make recommendations for the implementation of remedial action as required.
Required Experience / Expertise
- Strong experience in a product or category management role, ideally with one of the four big retailers.
- Solid, proven experience of negotiating prices and agreements.
- Demonstrable experience of successful internal and external stakeholder relationship management.
- Proven leadership capability with a track record of successfully leading commercial teams.
- Working knowledge of category management tools and the ability to turn insight into actions.
- Practical understanding of business accounting and forecasting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to sell in a compelling way.
- Ability to build strong working relationships and influence at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Ability to spot emerging trends and initiatives within the food market.
- Ability to lead, manage and develop a team to secure their engagement and deliver high performance.
- Sound understanding of business drivers with the ability to identify technical opportunities to achieve those drivers.
- Ability to gather and analyse data to identify opportunities and potential risks.
- Strong commercial acumen.
