Role Description The Chief Engineer is a full-time, on-site role located in the London Area, United Kingdom, responsible for overseeing all engineering and maintenance operations within the property. This role manages the maintenance of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety equipment, to ensure efficient, safe, and uninterrupted hotel operations. The Chief Engineer leads and schedules the engineering team, coordinates preventive and corrective maintenance, and monitors contractor performance and service agreements. Daily responsibilities include inspecting facilities, responding to technical issues, optimizing energy usage, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting capital projects and renovations. The role collaborates closely with hotel leadership to uphold brand standards, enhance guest satisfaction, and manage budgets and reporting related to engineering and maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Strong building systems expertise, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems, with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Proven experience in facilities management and preventive maintenance planning within hotels or complex commercial properties.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, including scheduling, training, performance supervision, and contractor coordination.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations, with a track record of maintaining compliance and safe working practices.
  • Experience with energy management, sustainability initiatives, and optimizing operational efficiency and cost control.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and respond to emergencies promptly.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with operational departments and senior management.
  • Relevant technical qualifications or certifications in engineering, building services, or a related field; a degree or equivalent experience in mechanical or electrical engineering is an advantage.
  • Previous experience as a Chief Engineer, Engineering Manager, or senior engineering role in hospitality or a similarly complex environment is highly beneficial.
