We are seeking a Principal Overhead Line (OHL) Design Engineer to join a growing consultancy that delivers projects across the UK transmission and distribution sector. The company specialises in the design of overhead lines, underground cables and wider energy infrastructure, supporting key national projects that contribute to Net Zero.
The Role
You will be responsible for delivering high-quality OHL design solutions, covering:
- Line profiling and routing
- Load, strength and foundation design
- Conductor selection and optimisation
- Coordination with CAD teams and checking deliverables
- Developing design processes and tools to improve efficiency
- Managing projects, clients and stakeholders
- Coaching and mentoring junior engineers
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver OHL design studies to scope, budget and programme in line with industry standards.
- Use PLS-CADD and related design software (Tower, Pole) as well as CAD tools.
- Manage drawings, schedules and design documentation.
- Act as technical lead with clients and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with CDM and safety standards.
Skills & Experience
- Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Chartered (MICE, MIET, MIMechE).
- 5+ years’ experience in OHL design (transmission or distribution).
- Strong knowledge of OHL standards and specifications (BS, ENA).
- Proficient in PLS-CADD / Tower / Pole software.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder and problem-solving skills.
