We are currently recruiting for a full-time Veterinary Unit Assistant, based at our main site at Frettenham, NR12 7LT.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the veterinary care of sick, injured and retired animals at the sanctuary including horses, cattle, pigs, goats, sheep and various small animals. Many of the animals have special requirements due to age, health challenges or mistreatment in the past.

Experience

  • Must have experience of working with large and small animals and be confident in handling and caring for animals.
  • Experience in veterinary care is desirable but full training will be given on the job.

  • Must have a genuine interest in animal welfare.
  • Ability to work within a team and have the initiative to work alone when required.
  • Have a 'can-do' attitude, flexibility and practical 'hands-on' approach to work.
  • Remains calm and in control when managing challenging situations.
  • Must be mindful of the importance of health and safety when working around animals.
  • Eager to learn and willing to undertake new tasks.
  • Takes pride in work and ensures duties are carried out effectively within required time-frames, with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent time-keeping, attendance and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather and have the stamina to do so.
  • A current manual driving licence is essential, with experience of towing horse-boxes/trailers a definite advantage.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time: 42.5 hours per week, 5 days over a 7 day period with alternate weekend working.
  • Starting time: 07.30 hrs.
  • Finish time: 16.00 hrs in the Winter Season, 17.00 hrs in the Summer Season.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From £12.32 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 42.5 per week

Benefits: On-site parking

Education: GCSE or equivalent (preferred)

Experience: Animal care: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification: Driving Licence (required)
