Hill McGlynn is currently working in partnership with a growing and well-regarded residential developer to recruit an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team based out of their Sittingbourne office. The Role

As Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team across a range of residential developments, assisting with cost control, subcontractor management, procurement, and commercial reporting. A key aspect of this role will involve the buying and procurement of construction materials, making this an ideal opportunity for someone with existing procurement experience or a confident and motivated individual eager to develop these skills further.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the commercial management of residential construction projects
  • Supporting the procurement and buying of construction materials
  • Obtaining and analysing supplier and subcontractor quotations
  • Assisting with valuations, variations, and cost reporting
  • Maintaining accurate commercial records and documentation
  • Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors, and site teams
  • Supporting senior commercial staff with day-to-day project duties

Requirements

  • Experience in buying/procurement of construction materials OR a highly confident, proactive, and willing-to-learn attitude to take on procurement responsibilities
  • Previous experience within construction or quantity surveying
  • Residential Experience Is Advantageous But Not Essential
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Good commercial awareness and attention to detail
  • Proficient IT skills including Microsoft Office
  • Full UK Driving Licence Preferred
