The Opportunity
Hill Mc Glynn are currently working with an established and growing residential construction business who are looking to appoint a Junior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Junior Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their commercial career within the residential construction sector, working alongside experienced commercial professionals across a range of residential developments.
The successful candidate will support the commercial team throughout the lifecycle of projects, gaining valuable exposure to procurement, cost management, subcontractor accounts, valuations and final accounts.
The Role
As Junior Quantity Surveyor, you will work closely with the Quantity Surveyors and wider commercial team to ensure projects are delivered within agreed budgets while maintaining strong commercial controls.
Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Assisting with the commercial management of residential construction projects.
- Supporting the procurement and appointment of subcontractors and suppliers.
- Preparing and issuing subcontractor enquiries and analysing quotations.
- Assisting with subcontractor valuations, payments and account management.
- Supporting the preparation of monthly valuations and cost reports.
- Monitoring project costs against budgets and forecasts.
- Assisting with variations and change management.
- Maintaining accurate commercial records and project documentation.
- Supporting the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
- Working closely with site, technical, buying and commercial teams.
- Developing an understanding of contractual requirements and commercial risk.
- Building strong working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams.
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic and commercially minded individual who is keen to build a long-term career within Quantity Surveying.
- You Will Ideally Have
- Some previous experience within Quantity Surveying or a construction commercial environment.
- A relevant degree, HNC/HND or qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline.
- An understanding of construction costs, procurement and commercial processes.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Good organisation and attention to detail.
- Confident communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a wider project and commercial team.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn and develop.
- Previous residential construction experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
