The Opportunity
Hill McGlynn is partnering with a well-established main contractor to recruit an experienced Senior Estimator to join their team based in Chatham. This is a key role within the business, offering the opportunity to take ownership of major tenders and contribute to securing a strong pipeline of projects across London and the South East. You will play a pivotal role in the pre-construction team, leading on complex bids and providing commercial insight to support strategic growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for a range of construction projects
- Manage the full tender lifecycle from initial enquiry through to final submission
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
- Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive and compliant quotations
- Identify project risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions
- Support and mentor junior estimators within the team
- Work closely with commercial, design, and operational teams to ensure cohesive bid strategies
- Attend client meetings and contribute to presentations where required
About You
- Proven experience in a Senior Estimator or experienced Estimator role within the construction sector
- Strong track record across new build, fit out, refurbishment, and/or cut carve projects (highly desirable)
- Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and meet tight deadlines
- Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills
- Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office
