Hill McGlynn is currently recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor on behalf of our client, a well-established and growing construction company based in Gillingham.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic team delivering a diverse range of residential and commercial construction projects. The successful candidate will initially join on a temp-to-perm basis, with the potential for freelance arrangements for the right individual.

The Role

As Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial management of multiple projects from pre-construction through to final account. Projects range from £100,000 to £2 million in value and include:

  • Residential refurbishments
  • Commercial refurbishments
  • Extensions
  • New build developments

You will work closely with project managers, site teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered on budget while maintaining high standards of quality and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing cost estimates, budgets, and tender submissions
  • Managing subcontractor procurement and valuations
  • Monitoring project costs and cash flow
  • Preparing and submitting applications for payment
  • Evaluating variations and change orders
  • Producing cost reports and forecasts
  • Negotiating final accounts
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and industry standards

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry
  • Strong knowledge of refurbishment, extension, and new build projects
  • Experience managing projects valued between £100,000 and £2 million
  • Excellent commercial awareness and cost management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Relevant construction or quantity surveying qualification preferred
