The Opportunity
Hill McGlynn are currently working with an established specialist contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of their façade and cladding projects.
Based from either the Romford or Potters Bar office, this is an excellent opportunity for a commercially strong Quantity Surveyor with experience across façades, cladding or the wider building-envelope sector.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the commercial management of live projects, working closely with the operational team to ensure schemes are delivered successfully and commercially.

The Role
As Freelance Quantity Surveyor, you will manage the commercial aspects of façade and cladding projects from procurement through to final account.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the commercial performance of façade and cladding projects.
  • Preparing and submitting valuations and applications for payment.
  • Managing subcontractor procurement, appointments, valuations and payments.
  • Identifying, pricing and agreeing variations.
  • Monitoring project costs, budgets, forecasts, margins and cash flow.
  • Preparing regular commercial and cost reports.
  • Reviewing contracts and identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Working closely with project managers and site teams to monitor project performance.
  • Managing subcontractor and supplier accounts through to final account.
  • Preparing and negotiating final accounts.
  • Maintaining accurate commercial records and supporting documentation.
  • Developing strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.

About You
We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor who can quickly integrate into the business and confidently take commercial responsibility for live projects.

You will ideally have:

  • Proven Quantity Surveying experience within the construction industry.
  • Experience working on façade, cladding or building-envelope projects.
  • Strong knowledge of valuations, variations, procurement and final accounts.
  • Good contractual and commercial awareness.
  • Experience managing the financial performance of live construction projects.
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage multiple commercial priorities.
  • A proactive, organised and commercially focused approach.
  • Availability to work on a freelance/contract basis.
