We are seeking an experienced and motivated SolidWorks Sheet Metal Designer / Draughtsman to join our growing fabrication and engineering team based in Stanmore, North London. This is a hands-on role working closely with our project managers, workshop team, and clients to develop detailed manufacturing drawings and production-ready designs for a wide range of fabricated metalwork projects.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience using the SolidWorks Sheet Metal application and be capable of producing accurate 3D models, flat patterns, DXF files, and manufacturing drawings with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities- Create detailed 3D sheet metal models using the SolidWorks Sheet Metal module.
- Produce flat patterns for manufacturing and CNC processing.
- Generate fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, workshop drawings, and Bills of Materials.
- Create production-ready DXF files for laser cutting and CNC machinery.
- Design and develop components using sheet metal features including bends, hems, flanges, gussets, louvers, and forming tools.
- Ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and cost-effective.
- Liaise with project managers, workshop personnel, suppliers, and customers to resolve technical issues.
- Revise and update drawings throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist with product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain drawing registers and document control systems.
- Carry out site surveys and measurements where required.
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks.
- Strong experience using the SolidWorks Sheet Metal application.
- Experience creating flat patterns and production-ready manufacturing drawings.
- Experience preparing DXF files for laser cutting and CNC fabrication.
- Good understanding of sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to interpret engineering, architectural, and fabrication drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Good spoken and written English communication skills.
- Experience within metal fabrication, architectural metalwork, structural steelwork, or bespoke metal manufacturing.
- Knowledge of laser cutting, press brake operations, welding, and assembly processes.
- Experience with AutoCAD.
- Understanding of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
- Full UK driving licence.
Please note: This role is not suitable for remote working. No working from home (WFH) arrangements are available. The successful candidate will work from our Stanmore office alongside our project management and fabrication teams. Applicants must have a good command of spoken and written English. We will provide licensed copies of SolidWorks and any other software required to perform the role. This is a long-term position within a growing and ambitious fabrication business.
